Roll Call And Net Controls' Files
Big Ben Big Ben - Official Time Keeper for the WPSS
Page and files updated: 05-09-2008 - 18:29:24
Hello troops!

New experimental version of the roll call: Rich Text Format (Clicking this link will let you open it in Explorer or allow you to save it to your drive.) It's in the 18pt bold Courier New font. Each member's birthday is wrapped to the following line resulting in a double spaced file.

This week's announcements are the same as last week's. For some reason, they didn't make it into the XLS version of the roll call file, so here they are for your convenience:

Announcements:
WPSS Picnic on July 11, 12, 13, Laguna Seca Park in Monterey County

This year the actual picnic is on the 12th. Wonderful Prizes!
Marge, KB6HAG has raffle tickets available for all ham members of WPSS
Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. Please mail your request and check to:

Marge May, KB6HAG
15120 Village #15
Camarillo, CA 93012-7051
Include a stamped, self-addressed envelope if you want your stubs sent to you. Also, please write your call sign on your check. All the information is on the WPSS Web site: www.3952khz.net
This week's text file is correct (verified).

The EXCEL File is here as usual, but still looks a bit plain and wonky.: My apologies, but we're working on producing a decent EXCEL file. Get announcements from this page or another version of the rollcall file.

The birthday list is sorted in a somewhat different way than it used to be. Look for the number of the day of the month followed by the month itself, that is all birthdays that occur on the 1st day of each month are listed in a block.

If your computer is more than 5 or 6 years old, the web page version of the birthday list may look very plain or very wonky (or might not display at all). If this is the case, use the text version instead.

Files you can get from links on this page: Currently we are offering three versions of the roll call file...
  1. a nice PDF version which you may download or print,
  2. an Excel spread sheet
  3. and a plain vanilla text version which is easily printable. (If you're not a net control and just want a copy of the current roll call, we recommend this one.)
Other files for net controls...
  1. Opening and closing scripts for the early monitor, late monitor, and roll caller (the preambles and postambles).
  2. The birthday file
The script and birthday files are available in plain text or as a web page.

Michael, W7HUT, is in charge of the roll call master list. This page will usually be updated on Fridays as Michael is currently issuing new roll call files on Thursday evenings. If you are a net control, you can get it the latest version of roll call from this page.

Since there is no sensitive information in these files, we've decided not to hide them away on a "members only" page.

Links to the files are below and are followed by instructions as to what to do after clicking on one.

* Roll Call In Plain Text
(11K - fast download even on a dialup)

*The Roll Call File sorted by birthdays (as a web page)
*(Plain text file)
(By month and day with the dates on the right due to current technical limitations here in the HZN computing centre which will be fixed soon! someday.)

Slight format change: The birthdays are now sorted by the number of the day followed immediately by the month, e.g. 1-Apr, 1-Dec,... 2-Apr, 2-Dec... ect.

Clicking on this link should open the file in your browser. Once it's displayed, you can click on File, then Print or Print Preview. The file is in the old fashioned text for MS-DOS format (80 colums maximum) so it should print on any printer that one can still get an ink cartridge for. By clicking on Print Preview first, you can adjust the font size to suit yourself before clicking on a Print icon, if it's in your Print Preview window or returning to the File menu and clicking on print. If you use this version to call roll, just place a check mark in the row for each station that checks in. You may wish to make notes of the dates on which you call roll at the top of the first page.

If you want an electronic copy of this file on your machine, click the ink with your right mouse button and click on Save target as or Save link as in the little box that will pop up. Alternately, you can click on File in your browser's menu bar, then click on Save Page As.

* The Roll Call File in the PDF format

You'll need the Adobe Reader. If you click this link and don't have the reader, your system will tell you that you need to download it. Click on the Get Adobe Reader icon or here to go to Adode's web site. The reader is free.

When you click on the link, the file will open in the Adobe reader and you may click on the little icon that looks like printer (2nd one from the left in the bar just above the file display window). Clicking on the words Save a Copy or the little disk at the extreme left in the menu bar will allow you to save a copy of the file to your computre.

Note: The Adobe version of the roll call file is locked as "read only" to maintain its integrity.

Note on this version of the roll call file: Michael has taken to using a different spreadsheet to create the rollcall list and a comma delimited text file that I use to create this XLS version of ther rollcall and the formated text file. Its format is very plain and a few special characters may not reproduce properly. This file is about half the size of the snazzy XLS version.

*The Roll Call file on an Excel spreadsheet
84K (and growing) - 15 seconds to half a minute or so download time on a dial up
You'll need the Excel spread sheet programme to view this file. It comes with Microsoft's Office software.

* Net Controls' Scripts Text Version
* Net Controls' Scripts HTML Version
These files are really small and will open almost instantly.
Instructions for each file are the same as those for the text version of the roll file.

If you have any problems, I can try to help you out. Just e mail wa6hzn@earthlink.net. It would be helpful if you put WPSS in the subject line along with anything else.
