From The President Renée, K6FSB, in c/o wa6hzn@earthlink.net
As I send this to the publisher the day before the end of 2007, I do hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and will have a great New Year. The ballots are in and counted by the Election Committee, which consisted of Earle, KM6WM as Chairman with Jerry, KD6SA, Gary N6CZE, and Larry KA6NXQ. Thank you to the committee and all who participated. Congratulations to the new executive staff and board. In addition the Bylaw changes passed, attached in this issue is a copy of the new Bylaws (requires the Adobe reader to view. Web page/text version in the works.). Special Congratulations are due to Earle, KM6WM and Al, WA6EFT on obtaining life membership. This is the most prestigious award that is bestowed upon a member of WPSS.

Like it or not we are heading towards a more impersonal method of communication, and the web is filling the bill. I had hoped that we would have gotten further along on the members only section for things like ability to vote, obtain specific info between members and other things however, it takes time, so that will be left for the future.

It appears that no matter what we do the band conditions are miserable, it took a long time for mother nature to manufacture these deplorable conditions and it will take just as long to get an improvement. We have no choice but to relax and go along, eventually it will improve. In the meantime everyone please act as relays. This net was started as a net to handle traffic, especially for those who were mobile and luckily we are starting to get more mobile stations. We no longer handle as much traffic due to changes in technology i.e. cell phones etc... Oh well, change is the only thing that is guaranteed. It may be good or well... nuf said. We are here ready and waiting to spring into action when the new fangled stuff becomes non-functional during a disaster!

I am looking forward to a small vacation of responsibilities as I have been involved with the net since 1970 when my father, Maynard "Roger" Deeter, WB6TBK a now SK joined. We attended many of the local get-togethers and while on vacation we'd stop and see members along our travels (mom was not always pleased, but I was as was dad). He really wanted me to join as an associate member, however I was too busy, first school and then being out of town due to professional responsibilities etc, besides I didn't need to join, I just had to poke my head in the "radio room" to listen or ask-dad who was that new member? Or hey, they changed the roll. Amateur Radio always has played a very prominent roll with WPSS always near the forefront, mostly due to my dad's involvement. Upon his passing I finally joined in 84. I then picked up the membership duties, roll call and other positions along the way. It has been most enjoyable. I'll still be around, the hearing injury of 2002 has not been kind in addition work has gotten in the way, however that will change, just give it/and me time. I hope things will return to normal. Meanwhile I'll hide in the woodwork.

I would like to thank the entire net, especially the net controllers and those listed on the NL cover, as their hard work has made this net and kept it going. It has been a pleasure serving and as always it is wonderful to hear your smiling voices on the net.

Tnx eCu on 3952, 73 Renée, K6FSB Outgoing President, WPSS
